Thursday, May 15, 15:15-17:00 at Drift 25, room 002.
We will talk about the relationship between these two scholarly communities and fields of study: what are the points of convergence and divergence between memory and heritage? How do these fields approach the past, and especially difficult heritage and disturbing memories? We will discuss how Macdonald and Rigney conceive of the dialectic of memory and forgetting, how they view the discussions around colonial pasts and collections, and the role of memory and heritage in activism, especially in the current moment, when the instrumentalization of the past for anti-democratic ends is on the rise.
