Utrecht University & University of Birmingham Joint Meeting

10 June, 2025

On 9 and 10 September, the Religious Matters in an Entangled World Project (Utrecht University) is organizing an exchange meeting with the Center for Material Cultures and Materialities (University of Birmingham). The purpose of the meeting is to share research, ideas, and new projects, and to learn from each other’s expertise in the field of material analysis. The presentations will focus on materiality, material cultures, (violent) conflicts, and religion while discussing historical and current cases. During the meeting, the focus will be on the tangible aspects of human interactions, such as objects, food, bodies, and texts, which serve as key entry points for exploring how people navigate and exploit the material world to sustain and express meanings, power structures, to raise and understand conflict, and to form social relationships across space and time. Let us know if you plan to attend. For more information and the program, feel free to contact Lucien van Liere, l.m.vanliere@uu.nl or Erik Meinema e.h.meinema@uu.nl
